History of Disney Movie Magic
Disney Movie Magic made a surprise debut at Disney's Hollywood Studios on May 26, 2017, as a projection-mapping show on the facade of the park's iconic Chinese Theatre. It originally played before Star Wars: A Galactic Spectacular and celebrated Disney's live-action film history, from classics like Mary Poppins, Old Yeller, and Bedknobs and Broomsticks to Pirates of the Caribbean, Indiana Jones, Tron: Legacy, Doctor Strange, and Guardians of the Galaxy.
The show closed on April 30, 2019, making way for Wonderful World of Animation, which debuted for the park's 30th anniversary. A return planned for March 2020, with a new Mulan sequence, was halted by the park closures. Disney Movie Magic finally came back on November 7, 2021, during Walt Disney World's 50th anniversary celebration, pairing with Wonderful World of Animation as a nighttime double feature. After another break, it returned to the Hollywood Studios entertainment lineup in fall 2025. Today the Chinese Theatre is home to Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway, and Movie Magic remains one of the park's most overlooked nighttime shows.
