The Tree of Life is the symbol of Disney’s Animal Kingdom, towering at 145 feet tall and featuring over 300 carved animals in its intricate bark. Visitors can stroll the surrounding Tree of Life Garden and admire all the artistry up close. Deep inside this remarkable structure is the Tree of Life Theater — a hidden gem that’s been entertaining guests since Disney’s Animal Kingdom opened on April 22, 1998.
Past Shows Held Here
It’s Tough to Be a Bug! (April 22, 1998 – March 16, 2025)
This beloved 3D show based on A Bug’s Life was one of the very first attractions in Animal Kingdom. Guests donned “bug-eye” glasses and experienced an interactive film with in-theater effects, animatronics, and plenty of laughs and surprises along the way. It ran for nearly 27 years before closing in March 2025 to make way for the new show.
Zootopia: Better Zoogether! (Opening November 7, 2025)
Replacing “It’s Tough to Be a Bug!”, this all-new 4D experience celebrates the vibrant world of Zootopia, featuring familiar faces and exciting visuals set to delight guests of all ages.
Fun Facts
It’s Tough to Be a Bug! actually premiered seven months before the film A Bug’s Life was released in theaters — a rare case of an attraction debuting before its movie!
Contrary to what many guests assume, the Tree of Life’s carvings weren’t only decorative — they were intentionally designed so the queue for the theater would wind past hidden animals you can’t see anywhere else.
The Tree of Life Theater seats over 400 guests, making it one of the most immersive indoor shows in all of Walt Disney World.
"Better Zoogether
